Requiem

A chamber music work exploring secular rituals and ecological grief.

Requiem is a multi sensory chamber work which endeavors to provide ceremonial shape to the ambiguity of national grief in the wake of the Australian bushfires in 2019/2020.

A confluence of western classical tradition, 20th century compositional theory, extended technique and analog electronics, Requiem explores the gravity of ritual, rites, and human connection as we confront this unthinkable loss of life and country.

Originally set for development during 2020, this work has been delayed, and its central concerns about grief and connection have been challenged and expanded. After 2 years of enforced exile, I will be returning to Naarm in 2022 to resume development.
