What are the parameters of life?
Has life originated more than once?
How likely is life to exist elsewhere in the universe?
These are the fundamental questions being asked by the Boundaries of Life Initiative, a multi institutional group investigating fundamental questions about the origins and limits of life.
In 2017 I partnered with this group to investigate how their research might inform different approaches to sound and music making. As part of this research I undertook a self directed residency at the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (M.E.S.S).
During the residency I created the score for a short documentary which featured the scientists involved in the project.
